Listed in Carnival of Personal Finance #156
Our article, Long Hours, was listed in The 156th Carnival of Personal Finance: Songs of Summer. Prime Time Money hosted and interspersed music videos through the carnival. I’m not so sure about using Bananarama as the headliner. To each his own.
I’m a little disappointed that I did not submit my wife’s post, Beating Those Summertime Budget Blues,to this carnival. There was a similar post that was an Editor’s Pick by The Q Family Adventure titled, 13 Fun (Free) Things to do This Summer. Don’t get me wrong, there were some good things in the post and it’s worth reading, but many things were specific to the Atlanta area.
Other posts I liked were
New species: middle class families on tight budgets by Monroe on a budget. This post along with Top 10 Part Time Evening Jobs – The New Way to Pay for Your Rising Mortgage and Gas Bills? by Debt Free, point to the problem with the current economy: people who had a comfortable existence, don’t anymore. Why is that? Three words: Recession and Inflation.
Cooking in the Heat (Outside Cooking) by Dollar Frugal is a fun reminder that you don’t have to heat up your house by cooking in it on hot days. It is more frugal to cook outdoors. I would never advise using cooking appliances in the garage as DF does. Too many volatile things that can ignite in there. The rest of the post is pretty good, though. Another thing my wife does in the heat of the day, that is not really cooking, is make sun tea. Yup, just put your cold water with tea bags in a closed transparent container outside in the sun, and in a couple of hours you will have a tasty drink.
Make Saving Enjoyable, or How You Can Have Your Cake and Eat It Too by Mind Your Decisions. This is a good post that spells out the difference between doing something because it is a goal, and doing something for a reason. We were just talking to a friend yesterday who is a broker. He said that he actually felt terrible if a large portion of his and his wife’s paychecks did not go into savings and investing. His goal was to save for the future, but his reason was to take care of him and his wife.
There are lots of other good posts in the carnival, so please check it out.
