Listings for Week of July 20
Our post, Backlash, was listed in the 162nd Carnival of Personal Finance: Baseball edition.
- Rationing Cards – A Pictorial Journey Down Nostalgia Lane at Broke-Ass Student. I love financial history. This is an interesting post containing memorabilia from the 1940s.
- Should I Keep My Gas Guzzling Vehicle? at the Money Answer Guy. Points out that trading in an SUV, which have gone down in value, for a gas-saving car, which have become more expensive, is probably not worth it. The post then goes on to point out the many ways there are to save on gas using driving techniques and says to just drive less. Obviously, if you have been planning to get a new car because your old one is worn out, then by all means, get a gas saver.
- The Financial Crisis Heats Up! at Dividends4Life points out one of the problems with going after the highest dividends, even with ETFs. Financial companies often pay high dividends. You can easily get overweighted in financials if dividend yields are your only investing criteria.

- 25 Ways To Improve Your Financial Situation In Under 10 Minutes at SavingAdvice.com. At first glance, you might think, “Another one of those lists,” but this one is well thought out and worth the read.
- Four Reasons to Shop at Farmer’s Markets at Blueprint for Financial Prosperity. We love going to the local farmer’s market almost every Sunday morning. This post has some good tips about talking to the farmers.
- You Can Do A Lot With That $40 at Frugal Babe. Talks about saving on food while at a park. We usually take our lunches with us, as well. Too bad there wasn’t a picture of her sister-in-law’s purse, though. She had a loaf of bread in it.
- How to Master Money & Wealth | Money Management at Anand Dhillon.com. This is a very good article on money management that gives a good spending/saving allocation. It is part of an 11-post series called Mastering Money and Weath. Well done!
Our post, Unclaimed Property, was listed at Money Hacks Carnival #21. Only 25 out of 60 submissions were listed in this carnival. I am happy I made it in. Some other posts I liked were
- Tips for Developing a Net Worth Mentality at The Happy Rock. This guest post does a good job of summing up my basic attitudes about personal finance and saving. In a nutshell, think long term and save for the future.
- Average Durations of Previous Bear Markets at Dividend Growth Investor. There is a good table listing average duration of bear markets over the last century and number of years needed after the bear markets to break even.
- Stages Of Wealth Accumulation at Harvesting Dollars. This is another good post talking about the long term outlook for personal finance.
- Don’t Make Money Blogging at the Shark Investor. I agree that there are lots of blogs that are very repetitive. I hope I do not have one of them!
My picks just scratch the surface. Please visit the carnivals and see what else you might find.
