Carnival Listings in the 4th Week of May
We were listed in 4 different carnivals this past week. Not only were the number of carnivals a first for me, but the number of authors were also a first: myself, my wife, and a guest author.
Our post, 12 Ways To Be Financially Boring, was listed at the Carnival of Personal Finance #154. We were listed as having caught the editor’s eye. In other words, we were an editor’s choice. Awesome. Some other posts the I liked in the Carnival were
- Why Aren’t You Bald? Top 5 Reasons, by the Money Kings. Bottom line is, you can save a good amount of money by not paying for hair cuts.
- Budgeting for the Unexpected Expenses by The Personal Financier points out that if you plan for emergencies, they then become only unexpected expenses, rather than true emergencies.
A guest post at Save and Conquer by Sarah Scrafford, titled Debit Debt From Your Life, was listed in the 141st edition of the Carnival of Debt Reduction. I have not personnaly been listed in this carnival yet. Some posts that I liked were
- Where Is Your Focus? by Free From Broke points out that the combination of focus and personal consciousness is what it takes to avoid making bad personal finance decisions.
- Along those same lines of focus, My Dollar Plan has a guest post titled Turn Your Wasted Money Into a Debt Reduction Plan that talks about having a budget, cutting wasteful spending, and applying the savings against debt.
My wife’s excellent post, Beating Those Summertime Budget Blues, was listed in theĀ 127th Festival of Frugality. I whole-heartedly recommend my wife’s post, as well as
- 9 Nearly Free Ways to Entertain at Home by Sound Money Matters. It is fun to have people over for a party or go out with friends, but it is often kind of expensive, as well. There are some good tips here on things you can do with friends that are very inexpensive.
- Tips for conserving water at Getting Ahead had 15 great tips for water conservation. Drought is a constant concern in the Western U.S. It recently was a problem in the Southeast, as well. These tips are great. One tip that I would add is to fix leaky faucets and toilets quickly. These sorts of leaks are just clean water going down the drain. Another water saving tip is Save Water – 3 Minute Showers at Dollar Frugal. Back in my day, these were called G.I. showers.
- A Frugal Fruit Basket Present by Frugal Chick.net is a great idea of something to give to people who need sheering up, like someone in the hospital.
Finally, our article, Label Your Stuff, was listed at The 14th Money Hacks Carnival – Weird Golf Facts Edition. Money Hacks is a rapidly growing carnival. I liked
- A day without electricity by squawkfox where she spent the day without electricity due to a power outage. She descibed all the things she could not do without electricity. This even included flushing the toilet since they have a well. No disrespect to squawkfox since she recongnized the problems of being too dependent on our elecronic appliances and toys, but have we become a helpless society, or what?
- New Grad: 5 Things I Wish I’d Known by The Writer’s Wallet gives some good advice to graduating job seekers. It is good advice to older job seekers, as well.
