Listed in the Festival of Frugality #148

Our article, Internet Public Library, was listed in the Festival of Frugality: Free extra money edition. I always manage to find some new frugal ideas in the festival’s postings. Some of my favorites this week were

Eating on $25 a Week: The Experiment at Cheap Healthy Good. I would have called this one an Editor’s Pick. It was a very interesting exercise. Kris took a random location in the U.S. and then set up a $25 7-day menu based on Internet shopping at the local supermarkets. To me, the biggest constraints she set for herself was that there be a meat dish, nothing in the pantry including condiments, and no coupons. If I only had $25, I would probably trade the meat for more fruit and legumes, would definitely use coupons, and would probably augment with some dumpster diving. Great job, Kris!

Does Advertising Really Make You Spend More? at Sound Money Matters talks about who is probably most affected by advertising and which types of ads most affect her. I find the final observation intriguing that people are weighing consumer recommendations, websites, and blogs more heavily than traditional advertising. I suppose this means that on-line advertising still has room to grow.

Wills, Thrills and Thriftymobiles at Miss Thrifty is a good reminder on the importance of having a will and how easy it is to actually do.
