Listed in the Money Hacker’s Carnival #9
Our article, Turn Off Your Furnace’s Pilot Light, was listed in the Money Hacker’s Carnival #9. I have to admit I was a little taken aback when I saw a really scary picture of Freddy Kruger at the top of the Carnival. Then I noticed that Quest For Four Pillars had labeled this carnival as the “Scream Edition,” and the tag line of slashing costs.
Right off the bat I encountered a great post from Not the Jet Set titled, “How To: Build a Low-Cost Rain Barrel.” We have a spot near the house that has poor drainage and always gets too damp during the Winter storms. Now I am slapping my head and asking myself, “Why didn’t I think of that?” I hope to have one of these puppies in place soon. (Perhaps not this weekend as we are holding our annual garage sale.)
Can I Get Rich on a Salary has a good post titled, Simon Says, Buy Real Estate. The post refutes the pundits that now is a good time to buy. My favorite line is, “As my mama used to say, if a bunch of lemmings were walking backwards off a cliff, would you still have played instead of studying and gotten this C- on this math test?”
Ryan at Millionaire Money Habits has a good post about How Can Kids Make Money When They’re Young. Most of the ideas are for kids older than our 7-year old. He is still into lemonade stands. But they are good ideas.
FIRE Finance always seems to have good posts. FIRE posted the Top 7 Energy Saving Tips for this Summer! The tips are mostly common sense, But a list like this is good for checking off each way to save.
There are other great money-saving hacks in the carnival, like Frugal Grocery Shopping Tips where Maria talks about, what else, saving money while grocery shopping and introduces us to using a price book to keep track of relative pricing, and Amazon Shopping Tips to Save Money, where Joshua talks about saving money by using various methods at amazon.com So please drop by and check it out.

Maria @ Financial-Tip:
Thanks for the link love! I noticed your post on turning off the pilot light. We don’t have natural gas but those who do should take your advice. Now that warmer weather is here, of course.
